Seiritsu Soccer Girls advancing through 'Newcomers' tournament
While the fate of the All Japan HS Soccer Tournament was being decided on the January 13, Seiritsu's Girls Soccer Club was also in action in the second round of the Tokyo Newcomers (or 'shinjin') Tournament, hammering their opponents Toritsu Suginami Sōgō 12-0.
A 'shinjin' competition is a staple of almost all school sports clubs, and they give the first years a chance to really get noticed now that all the third years have 'retired' to focus on their university entrance studies.
The girls now proceed to the third round, where they face Toritsu Roka High School on Saturday January 18.
