Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center

Every year, the international department takes international students out for a few excursions. Some excursions are used to introduce or review topics related to Japanese history or culture. But some trips are used to introduce important aspects related to living in Japan. Today's trip was one of the latter.

We took the students to the Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center which provides visitors with a variety of experiences. Visitors start with a movie that highlights what a major earthquake is like. They have made a new much more story-like movie. It was quite interesting!

After the movie, there are several courses and different paths to take. There are sections on using fire extinguishers and types of fires, dealing with smoke and a smokey maze experience, AED training and more. The highlight is the earthquake simulator. We could feel what a level 7 earthquake feels like.

If you have a little time, we highly recommend visiting the Life Safety Learning Center. As the one character in the movie states, you'll be glad you had it should something happen.

PS
We also took them out to several book stores in the area where they could find books for their JLPT and other studies.
