Seiritsu International Education

Seiritsu's high school boys' football team have recently won the Group B qualifier tournament with a score of 2:1 and will go on to compete nationally in late December. This will be the first time in seventeen years that the team will compete at a national level!

Staff and students from middle and high school showed up to support the team on November 12th. Everyone was in high spirits after the win at the previous weekend's semi-finals. All the students were in their sports kit and carried their blue and yellow towels, ready to cheer.

After Seiritsu scored in the first five minutes, the match was tense throughout with some offside goals being discounted and several fierce races across the pitch. Drawing in the second half, Seiritsu eventually secured their win in the extra time added on. Both sides showed a lot of grit and determination and the match was truly exciting to watch with players demonstrating a high skill-level.

In November, we went sweet potato harvesting with first-year junior and senior high students. Some students had the role of digging; others had the task to cut the sweet potatoes off the stems/roots. It was great to see the students working together and fully enjoying themselves.

I was truly amazed that the students were not scared of the frogs. I thought that the frogs/bugs would cause chaos and more students would freak out. But a lot of the students were very well-behaved and sensible.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience for me as I got to build a better rapport with the students in a more informal environment. Hence, I had a brilliant day interacting with different students.

Today, Seiritsu had an school assembly to celebrate our school our big win (score 2 to 1) on Sunday that qualifies our school to compete in the 101st National High School Soccer Tournament. Only 1 team from each prefecture and 2 teams from Tokyo (because of its large population) can qualify. It's the first time in 17 years that Seiritsu has qualified and the 3rd times since the school was founded. Go Seiritsu Soccer! Eiken interview testing starts on November 6th. In Japan most everyone knows or at least remembers the Eiken Test, which is a test of English proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Once the first test is passed, you must take an interview test which tests your skills yet again.
