Scarlett's summer nutrition tips

As summer time comes around its easy to forget about eating because it is so hot and our bodies don't crave carbs like they usually do in winter. But in the heat, it is important to get as much nutritious food as possible so we have enough energy to get through those warm days. Here are some top tips for staying cool and keeping healthy:

1) GREEN TEA: Japanese people do not need to be told about the health advantages of green tea as they already know. But also it is said that it can protect you from heart disease, cancer, and even dementia. Drinking warm beverages in the heat seems like a silly idea but it actually regulates your body temperature so try drinking it hot!

2) Avocados: What is the obsession with avocados? Well, they are not only a superfood but they are also one of the healthiest fats we can eat. Also, there are many ways you can eat them so you will never get bored. Australians eat them with eggs for breakfast which they call "avo on toast".

3) Smoothies: Sometimes it can get boring eating the same old fruits, so why not spice it up by making a smoothie? You can also include yogurt which is full of protein and has beneficial bacteria. Smoothies are a great way to get all your daily vitamins and also keep you full up in the morning. Add vegetables or ginger to make it super good for your body.

4) Salads: Ok, so I know salads sound gross but if you just add your favorite foods to it you can have an amazing balanced meal. Try adding teriyaki salmon, bbq chicken, tuna or even blue cheese to your salad to make it suit you!

Let's keep eating well this summer and also do not forget to drink lots of liquids to stay hydrated. Pocari Sweat will be your best friend in Japanese Summer.
