A little about Nengajo

The Japanese have a very interesting custom of sending special postcards at New Years to friends and family and work relations. These postcards are called nengajo in Japanese.
They are normally mailed out a few days before the New Year day and are delivered on the 1st day of the year. They say that they deliver about 2 billion pieces all at that time! That is a lot of postcards!

Each year has a zodiac theme. Not everyone uses that theme but many do. This year is the year of the rabbit. You can see here some examples that are sold in a convenience store.

If you have a chance, look up more about nengajo. They are an interesting custom and might give you a chance to keep in contact with people in Japan.
