Winter Holidays
The winter holidays are coming, and they are important in Japan because the time around the New Year is a time for busy Japanese families to get together and relax and enjoy good food such as mochi rice cakes, ozoni soup, and many other (often fermented dishes). In Japan, the last time you see someone before the new year, you say Yoi Otoshi Wo (Have a good year) and the first time you see them after the new year has started, you say Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu (Congratulations on the opening (of the new year).
